Acosta suggested this donation damaged NBC’s credibility, similar to how other news organizations have faced criticism for compromising their principles.
I was really struck by what Jim Acosta said on his podcast. He basically called out the major TV networks, saying they’ve caved to Trump and are letting the U.S. move towards a system where the government has too much control over what we see on television. He feels they’re all, in some way, compromised, and it’s a really concerning point he made.
Acosta voiced his frustration with NBC and Comcast, stating that NBC has joined other networks in sacrificing its integrity. He pointed to a recent donation made by Comcast, NBC’s parent company, to Donald Trump’s fundraising efforts.
He strongly criticized several major television networks, claiming ABC and CBS had bribed the President. Acosta also asserted that CBS had been taken over by far-right extremists and didn’t spare Fox News from criticism either.
Considering the payments made to Trump by ABC and CBS, plus the right-wing takeover of CBS and the increasingly state-controlled nature of Fox News, the American television landscape is starting to resemble state-run or heavily influenced media. It’s a concerning trend towards a situation where television news isn’t truly independent.
As a lifelong movie and news fan, I really agree with what Acosta was saying. It feels like some media outlets have forgotten they’re supposed to be independent from any one politician – Trump especially. He’s right that we need to support the journalists and smaller studios who are doing real, unbiased work. It’s up to us to help them thrive.
Large media companies, concerned about getting approval for their business deals from the Trump administration, seem to have lost sight of their public responsibility. They’ve forgotten that they’re using airwaves that belong to all of us – not just to corporations or the government. The best way to respond is to demand accountability from these companies by supporting independent news sources.
News about Comcast’s potential role in renovations to the White House ballroom emerged around the same time President Trump publicly criticized NBC hosts. On November 1, 2025, he called Seth Meyers a “deranged lunatic” on his Truth Social account. He has also previously attacked Jimmy Fallon, suggesting shortly after Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC that Fallon should also be removed from The Tonight Show.
Beyond criticizing late-night TV hosts, Trump frequently attacked journalists who weren’t supportive of him. In 2018, after a tense exchange at a press conference, he temporarily barred CNN’s Jim Acosta from the White House. During the disagreement, a White House staffer attempted to take Acosta’s microphone, but he held on to it.
