The heroes known as The Defenders are starting to reunite within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Krysten Ritter will be returning as Jessica Jones in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, signaling a fresh chapter for these characters who originally appeared on Netflix, now as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
Despite Charlie Cox and Jessica Ritter working together again, Finn Jones is sparking speculation about a potential return for Iron Fist to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He posted a story on Instagram showing him at a Taekwondo dojo, with a picture of someone performing a high kick, which has fans buzzing.
Finn Jones last played Danny Rand in the second season of Iron Fist, which premiered on Netflix on September 7, 2018. He also appeared in the second season of Luke Cage – which turned out to be the final season of Mike Colter’s Marvel show – after it was released on June 22, 2018.
Marvel Studios didn’t officially include the Defenders shows – including the team-up series – in the main MCU timeline until 2024. Although there are currently no announced plans to revive Iron Fist or Luke Cage, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about their possible return.
When asked about Luke Cage potentially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Edmonton Expo on September 20, 2025, Colter playfully responded that he didn’t understand why people kept asking, noting there hadn’t been any indication of a revival like there was with other Marvel Netflix shows. However, with a third season of Daredevil: Born Again already confirmed, he implied that other heroes from The Defenders could still appear in the future.
The ninth episode of Daredevil: Born Again concluded with Mayor Fisk making it illegal for superheroes and vigilantes to operate in New York City, impacting characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Spider-Man. Now that Matt Murdock has teamed up with Detective Ritter, it remains to be seen if other heroes in New York City will play a role in the second season.
Although it’s not official yet, there are strong indications Danny will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is confirmed to launch on Disney+ in March 2026.
