I’ve Been Wondering About Hocus Pocus 3, And Bette Midler’s Update Is Giving Me Hope

Though Hocus Pocus wasn’t a hit in theaters when it came out in 1993—Jurassic Park was the big movie that summer—it’s become a beloved Halloween tradition for families. The 2022 Disney+ sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, was incredibly popular on the streaming service, leading many to ask why it wasn’t shown in cinemas. And now, a third movie is in the works! As Halloween comes to an end, here’s an update on the latest Hocus Pocus news.

So, I was watching Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen the other day, and they asked Bette Midler about Hocus Pocus 3. Here’s what she had to say about where things stand with the sequel!

I received a script that had some really strong moments, and I’m enthusiastic about it. Now, we’re working on figuring out the details – like the overall concept, where it will be produced, and the budget.

That’s great news! Often, movie and TV show delays happen because the script isn’t finished or ready on time. But according to Bette Midler, the script for Hocus Pocus 3 is currently in good shape. Now, the focus is on practical details like creating the budget and making any final adjustments to the story.

Disney+ offers a wide range of family-friendly Halloween movies, including classics like Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Halloweentown. Subscriptions are available starting at $11.99 per month with ads. You can watch without ads for $18.99 a month, or save 16% by paying $189.99 for a full year. See the deal here.

News about Hocus Pocus 3 first surfaced in June 2025 when Sean Bailey, then president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, revealed it was being developed. Shortly after, reports indicated that Anne Fletcher, the director of Hocus Pocus 2, and writer Jen D’Angelo would be back for the third film. According to Bette Midler, D’Angelo had already completed the script, following earlier hints about how the Sanderson sisters might return.

It’s exciting to hear that Hocus Pocus 3 is really starting to come together. Previously, updates about the sequel were vague. Last year, Bette Midler mentioned the studio was cautiously discussing a follow-up, and Sarah Jessica Parker said in July that they had been having preliminary talks about it.

As a huge movie fan, it just makes total sense that Disney+ is making another one! The last film broke all sorts of streaming records – 2.7 billion minutes watched in its first weekend is insane! I’m really hoping we hear news soon about the cast getting back together to start filming. Honestly, the thought of a new movie in this franchise is incredibly exciting!
