Although some reports say otherwise, Netflix is seriously considering buying one of the biggest and most famous movie studios ever. Warner Bros. had a very successful year at the movie theaters and is now looking to sell, and Netflix is interested in making a deal.
Netflix is now considering a bid to buy Warner Bros., according to Reuters. They’ve hired Moelis & Co. to help put together an offer, putting them in competition with Paramount, which is currently seen as the leading contender. This is a shift from Netflix’s previous statements that they weren’t interested in acquiring Warner Bros. Moelis & Co. also recently advised Skydance Media in its merger with Paramount Global, and Paramount is looking to expand its content library. While Netflix hasn’t formally submitted a bid yet, reports suggest one is coming soon.
In addition to needing to offer a competitive price for Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix faces another hurdle: President Trump and his administration appear to favor Paramount. According to the New York Post, a Trump official indicated that the ownership of Warner Bros. Discovery is a key concern for the administration, and the board should consider which potential buyer has a proven track record of completing deals – a clear signal pointing towards the owners of Paramount-Skydance, the Ellisons. This suggests Trump is likely to approve the Paramount-Skydance merger over other offers, such as Netflix, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
