ModRetro is adding two more games to its Chromatic Classics Collection. Following their recent updated release of Rayman for Game Boy Color, they’re now creating new cartridges for Croc and Buck the Bunny, the former GameStop mascot.
Croc: 25th Anniversary Edition is a remastered version of the beloved Game Boy Color platformer from 2000. Fans can preorder it starting October 31st (dubbed ‘Croctober’ by fans!), with the game expected to ship in December 2025. It costs $45 and includes over 30 levels across four different worlds. The game follows Croc as he battles Baron Dante and his helpers, and this edition boasts improved controls and better save features.
Buck and the Cursed Cartridge is a quick-action platformer where you run and gun your way through levels. When the GameStop mascot finds a mysterious game cartridge, he’s sucked into the game itself and has to battle to survive. Expect challenging boss fights, abilities you can improve, and even classic cheat codes! It costs $45 and launches on October 31st. You’ll be able to buy it from both the ModRetro store and GameStop.
These games are compatible with original Nintendo consoles and devices like the Analogue Pocket, even though they feature ModRetro and Chromatic branding. The ModRetro Chromatic recently launched and received high praise for its accurate recreation and enhancement of the Game Boy Color. New versions of this updated Game Boy are now available in two options: a $200 model with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, and a $300 version featuring more durable materials and Sapphire Glass.
A few months ago, ModRetro revealed they’re creating a new console inspired by the classic Nintendo 64. While it doesn’t have a firm release date, preorders are open now for $199.
