Amazon recently announced layoffs in its gaming department, and now it appears these cuts are impacting the team working on the game New World. After the release of the latest update, Season 10: Nighthaven, Amazon will no longer be creating new content for New World.
Amazon Games Orange County announced on the game’s website that while the game isn’t shutting down immediately, it will only remain online through 2026. After that, its future is uncertain. However, players will be happy to know that the upcoming Nighthaven update will be available at no cost.
The developers have announced that Season 10 and the Nighthaven update will be the last new content released for New World on both PC and consoles. This decision wasn’t made lightly, and as a thank you to the New World community for their years of support, the Nighthaven update is being offered for free. Additionally, the ‘Rise of the Angry Earth’ expansion is now free for all PC players, so everyone can enjoy the latest content.
New World will stay on PlayStation Plus for Extra and Premium members for now, though its availability won’t last forever. The developers are still working on fixing bugs and making the game better, and players can continue to play if they already own it or purchase it. While there will still be challenging world bosses, special bonus weeks, and some seasonal activities, the usual holiday events have been canceled.
The team promises to give players at least six months’ warning before making any changes that affect how they play New World: Aeternum.
