Skydance Media has made it clear that they are eager to bring the Star Trek films back to cinemas following the merger with Paramount, and there have been steps taken towards achieving this goal. In the pipeline, we have a movie focusing on the origins of Starfleet, as well as confirmation that a fourth film in the Kelvin series is still being worked on, despite some initial setbacks. Zachary Quinto is actively working to push things forward, though I couldn’t help but smile at his recent attempts.
Recently, as I gear up for the comeback of my medical series “Brilliant Minds” in the TV lineup of 2025, a conversation with Collider couldn’t be missed. They asked me if the recent merger might push forward the long-awaited sequel to 2016’s “Star Trek: Beyond.” I admitted that I’ve recently made an effort to explore just that possibility.
Last week, I wrote an email to J.J. expressing my enthusiasm about the possibility of a fourth movie. I believe fans would be thrilled, and it seems like the perfect time to take action on this idea we’ve been discussing for so long. So, I’m doing my best to advocate for this project. I truly think it would be fantastic if we could make it happen. There are numerous stories we could explore, and it’s exciting to consider returning to characters we have a rich history with and strong bond towards. Here’s hoping we can bring this idea to life!
I understand why Zachary Quinto brought up the idea of another Star Trek Kelvin movie in his email, but it seems quite amusing given the past struggles with scripts and comments about difficulties from cast members. It’s likely that J.J. Abrams enjoyed hearing from the actor, but maybe he didn’t need the reminder that many fans are still eagerly awaiting this film.
It appears that the outline for future Star Trek projects does not yet include a film from the Kelvin timeline in active production. However, several members of the cast are still eager and ready to reprise their roles and work on a Kelvin movie. Among them is Zachary Quinto.
I am thrilled at the prospect of creating another Star Trek movie! It seems odd that we haven’t made one yet, but with the Skydance and Paramount merger progressing, I hope that Skydance, our past financiers who have been fantastic partners in our films, will be on board once more. A new film would provide a great opportunity to wrap up the current storyline and characters we’ve grown attached to over the years. It has been a decade since our last movie was made, and eight years since it hit theaters. I truly believe that this could mark a satisfying conclusion to this chapter of the Star Trek saga.
It would be delightful if the right idea, once clarified, moves forward. Notably, this ensemble cast continues to be sought-after in both TV and film productions in Hollywood. Given the high demand for Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, and John Cho, I can only assume negotiating their return wouldn’t come cheap. Adding other well-known celebrities to play antagonists and supporting characters would further increase production costs.

The Fascinating Story About How Star Trek: Khan Was Originally Supposed To Be A TV Series
As a devoted Star Trek enthusiast, I can’t help but feel like I’d be just as eager as Zachary Quinto if given the chance to drop J.J. Abrams an email or two about the upcoming film. In fact, I believe that most ardent fans would feel the same way, ten years after the last movie left us hanging. So, here I am, sounding the horn once more, reminding the executives at Skydance and Paramount that this project is still a worthy pursuit, having been stuck in development limbo for so long. After all, Star Trek’s enduring appeal hasn’t waned one bit!
In the interim, it’d be exciting to explore if ‘Star Trek’ could make a comeback on the big screen. I’ve expressed my enthusiasm about the possibility of a ‘Voyager’ film, and I’d equally enjoy witnessing the Kelvin universe grow further, perhaps even reaching the era of ‘The Next Generation.’ Now, I’m not singling anyone out, but James McAvoy is at the same age as Patrick Stewart was when he began his acclaimed ‘Trek’ role. So, why not consider him for portraying another one of the actor’s beloved characters?
Let’s wait and check if we receive solid news about the release date for the upcoming “Star Trek” Kelvin movie in the coming year. Regrettably, I won’t feel assured anything is truly in progress until I spot a cast photo on set. However, I am optimistic that the actors will keep sharing updates and ideas will continue to be proposed!
