Chainsaw Man Movie Dominates Opening Night Box Office in Major Anime Win For Sony

The new Chainsaw Man movie is a huge hit! Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc earned an impressive $8.5 million on its opening day, beating out both Bruce Springsteen’s Deliver Me From Nowhere and Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You in North American ticket sales.

I’m so excited for fellow anime fans! Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc absolutely killed it in its opening weekend, bringing in $8.5 million from Friday and previews across 3,003 theaters! It officially hit US cinemas on October 24, 2025, but Crunchyroll subscribers got a sneak peek on Wednesday, October 22nd. This is huge for Sony and Crunchyroll, especially following the amazing success they had with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle! It’s their biggest win since Bad Boys: Ride or Die last year, which just proves how much appetite there is for great anime in theaters!

The movie Chainsaw Man: The Movie is now showing in American theaters. You can watch it with the original Japanese audio and English subtitles, or with an English dub featuring Ryan Colt Levy, who voices Denji. The film is a continuation of the popular Chainsaw Man anime, picking up after the exciting conclusion of Season 1 in December 2022. It was first released in Japan on September 19, 2025.

After a three-year delay, a new director, Tatsuya Yoshihara (known for his work on Black Clover and Jujutsu Kaisen 0), took over the anime. He directed The Reze Arc (also called the “Bomb Girl” arc), replacing Ryū Nakayama who directed the first season. Yoshihara oversaw the adaptation of this popular story arc from the Chainsaw Man manga, which is published in Shonen Jump.
