Jesse Williams Is Set To Return To Grey’s Anatomy, And I’ve Got A Couple Of Questions

Although Jesse Williams left Grey’s Anatomy as a main cast member after 12 seasons (ending with Season 17), he still makes appearances. Season 22 has already brought back some familiar faces, and Jackson Avery is set to return in an upcoming episode next year. While fans always enjoy seeing him, the preview for the episode titled “Goodbye Horses” raises a few questions about his visit.

Okay, so the preview for the next episode of Grey’s is seriously intriguing – and a little unsettling. It hints at some really tough emotional challenges for the interns, which I’m already bracing for. But what really got me thinking is the storyline about Meredith being forced to team up with someone for a complicated breast reconstruction surgery. Honestly, after watching the preview, I have a bad feeling it might be Jackson Avery who’s involved. I’m sharing the preview below so you can see what I mean!

Jackson is definitely behaving coldly towards his friend and coworker, and that brings me to my first question:

What’s With The Attitude Toward Meredith?

I’m glad to see Meredith Grey back in Seattle and performing surgeries again, but it seems to be causing issues with Jackson in Boston. He’s apparently frustrated that her research lab isn’t being used and she isn’t releasing any new studies. I might be mistaken, but didn’t she just publish a lot of research that initially upset both him and the Catherine Fox Foundation, almost costing her her job?

Jackson seems to be acting spitefully, and I’m concerned he’s releasing research that doesn’t seem finished. I’m curious to learn more about what’s happening with him personally, which reminds me…

Where The Heck Is April Kepner?

Okay, as a long-time watcher of Grey’s Anatomy, I have to admit my heart soared when Jackson and April Kepner reunited in the Season 18 finale – seeing Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew back together was fantastic. But honestly, the show is teasing us a bit. This upcoming episode will mark the third time Jackson’s been back without April. And let’s be real, ‘Japril’ is a package deal – you can’t have one without the other! It feels incomplete without both of them sharing the screen.

I understand Sarah Drew is successful with her own projects, and I enjoy her work in those Lifetime and Hallmark films. I’m not suggesting a whole new show focused on her and Jesse Williams’ characters, but wouldn’t it be nice if her character could revisit Seattle with his at some point?

I might be getting used to seeing familiar faces on Season 22! In just the first three episodes, we’ve already welcomed back Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce with some exciting news, Kate Burton as Ellis Grey stirring up drama for her daughter, and Sophia Bush as Cass Beckman rekindling her romance with Teddy Altman (Kim Raver).

I really can’t wait to see Owen Hunt’s reaction to that reunion!

We won’t have to wait long to find out why Jackson Avery is returning to Seattle and what’s bothering him about Meredith. And even if Sarah Drew doesn’t appear, we might still get news confirming that April and Jackson are doing well.

You can watch Grey’s Anatomy on ABC Thursdays at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. New episodes are also available to stream on Hulu starting the day after they air.
