Okay, so in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, there are a ton of Pokémon to catch – over 200, actually! Most of them are just roaming around in the Wild Zones, which is awesome. But some are a little different – you’ll have to do things like finish quests if you want to snag the starter Pokémon from the Kalos region.
Like in previous games, you won’t find fossil Pokémon out in the wild to catch directly. Instead, you’ll need to find fossils first, and then revive them to bring Pokémon like Aerodactyl, Tyrunt, and Amaura back to life.
Here’s a guide to finding every fossil Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A to help you complete your team.
How To Revive Fossil Pokémon In Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You’ll encounter the side quest “Restored from a Fossil” relatively early in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. It’s the 27th side mission, and a lab technician at the Pokémon Research Lab – the place where you first meet Mable – will give it to you.
Once this quest unlocks, go to the Pokémon Research Lab and find Reg on the second floor. He’ll tell you about a new machine the team created to bring Pokémon back to life from fossils, and he’ll also give you 20,000 Pokédollars.
Reg needs you to buy either the Jaw Fossil or the Sail Fossil from the Stone Emporium to finish the quest. The Stone Emporium is just north of the Pokémon Research Lab, so it’s a quick trip from there.
When you get to the building, click on it to see what the merchant is selling. You’ll find three items: the Jaw Fossil and Sail Fossil that Reg told you about, and the Old Amber. If you’ve played Pokémon before, you might recognize Old Amber as the item needed to get Aerodactyl.
Reg gave you 20,000 Pokédollars to buy a fossil. After that, you can go back to Reg and choose to revive either Tyrunt or Amaura. But that’s not all – you can also revive the other fossil without needing to go to a Wild Area.
You can still get the fossil you didn’t buy at the Stone Emporium for 20,000 Pokédollars, and the Old Amber for 30,000 Pokédollars. Bring both to Reg at the Pokémon Research Lab, and he’ll revive them for free.
When you bring Pokémon back to life from fossils, they’ll be level 20. I suggest choosing Aerodactyl because you can Mega Evolve it immediately once you get the Aerodactylite. The other two fossil Pokémon need to reach a higher level and fully evolve before they can Mega Evolve.
To evolve Amaura or Tyrunt, you first need to train them to level 39. Once they reach that level, they’ll become Aurorus or Tyrantrum. After that, you can use their respective Mega Stones in battle to Mega Evolve them.
