Tim Willits, a long-time game developer famous for his contributions to classics like Quake and Doom at id Software and currently a leader at Saber Interactive, recently had a surprising inspiration for a new game. The idea came from someone who used to discourage people from playing video games.
Willits mentioned he met comedian Jimmy Carr at the airport, and they started chatting about games. He said Carr actually gave him an idea for a video game, and that he was genuinely impressed by how kind and clever he was.
Willits didn’t offer any further comment, and Carr hasn’t shared details about his game idea online yet.
Comedian Shane Carr, famous for interacting with audiences during his shows, recently shared in a viral video that he stopped playing video games when he was a kid. He playfully told young people to cut back on gaming, explaining that modern games are so enjoyable they provide easy, instant gratification – what he called ‘cheap dopamine’ – instead of being a valuable use of time and money. Carr’s advice? He urged them to ‘go out and have a real adventure.’
Willits began his career at id Software in the 1990s, helping to create the first games in the popular Doom and Quake series. He eventually became studio director there, spending over 23 years with the company before departing in 2019. Currently, he’s the chief creative officer at Saber Interactive.
Saber Interactive, a studio owned by Embracer Group, recently released Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 to positive reviews and strong sales. They are currently working on a follow-up game.
