In response to reports of a woman supposedly needing assistance, deputies in Maine hastened towards the scene, but instead found that the distressing cries were actually emanating from a goat.
On August 30, at approximately 8:30 pm, a distressing incident occurred near the railroad tracks in Etna, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office. A concerned caller reported hearing multiple pleas for aid, which led deputies to conduct a thorough search of the area.
Upon their arrival, it became clear to the deputies that no individuals were in peril. The source of the cries turned out to be Simon, a young Nigerian dwarf goat residing at Oak Shade Farm. His unusually loud, almost human-like braying had been misconstrued as distress from a person.
Goat behind the commotion
According to his owner, Devon Hawes, Simon, their young goat, tends to talk more than usual. “He’s simply full of things to express,” she shared with local news channels, noting that it wasn’t surprising that the noise he made caused concern among passersby.
According to the sheriff’s office, the event was an “unexpected scenario,” but they concluded it ended in amusement instead of worry. Later on, the Hawes family relayed this anecdote on Facebook, prompting local folks to make lighthearted comments about the mistaken alarm.
