Maryland police were overwhelmed with people volunteering for a training exercise where they would simulate being under the influence, allowing officers to practice identifying impaired individuals.
On October 14th, the Ocean City Police Department put out a call on social media asking adults 21 and over to participate in a drug-related activity.
Police are seeking 12 to 14 volunteers over the age of 21 to participate in a study where they will consume cannabis. This is to help officers learn how to identify when someone is driving under the influence of marijuana.
The event wasn’t providing cannabis; attendees had to bring their own. However, lunch was included, making it ideal for anyone who gets hungry after smoking.
It was great news for the police department, but bad luck for those already high: they received so many volunteer applications, so quickly, that they didn’t need any more.
Cops say an “overwhelming” amount of volunteers signed up to get high
Police reported receiving a huge number of sign-ups in a little over four hours.
As such, they couldn’t take any additional volunteers, but thanked the public for their interest.
I was really happy to hear that about 40 student officers will be helping out! It’s awesome that so many of them volunteered to train the next group of law enforcement officials. It’s great to see them giving back and helping to shape the future of policing.
As more states legalize marijuana and societal views become more accepting, the cannabis industry is experiencing rapid growth and attracting a growing number of people.
Interestingly, a new study shows that people working in the cannabis industry in the US report the highest levels of job satisfaction nationwide, even more so than those in fields like restaurants, coffee shops, or retail.
