Police in Westchester County are requesting assistance from the public after a break-in at Playland amusement park in Rye, New York. Three individuals are suspected of stealing hundreds of prizes during the incident.
Investigators say the group landed at Playland beach in a small boat around midnight on September 23rd. They then climbed a fence to get into the park, where they caused damage and stole several bags of merchandise.
According to police, the three individuals arrived by boat at Playland beach just before midnight on September 23rd.
Police say suspects vandalized electrical room, stole plush prizes
Police report that the suspects damaged an electrical room by cutting or tearing out the fiber optic cables that provide phone and internet service.
The group stole about 200 stuffed animals, carrying them away in garbage bags. They also tried to push a photo booth off the boardwalk, but gave up on that attempt.
Police have shared photos and details about the case with other law enforcement groups, but they haven’t found the three people they’re looking for yet.
It’s unknown if the group who broke in intends to sell the prizes they stole or keep them. Playland hasn’t made an official announcement about the incident, but did share a post from the Westchester County Police Department on their social media pages.
This announcement follows a recent incident where a Colorado man, wanted for several robberies, was filmed by a news crew while they were reporting on those very crimes.
