Sarah Paulson Tears Up Remembering Her ‘Dear Friend’ Diane Keaton

Sarah Paulson is still grieving the loss of her friend, Diane Keaton, who passed away last week at age 79 from pneumonia. Speaking at the premiere of her new show, All’s Fair, Paulson told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s deeply saddened and finding it hard to express her feelings. She shared that Keaton was an even more wonderful person than the public knew her to be as an actress. In a similar conversation with Access Hollywood, Paulson said she wasn’t ready to talk about Keaton’s legacy but wanted everyone to know her friend was an exceptional human being. Visibly emotional, Paulson added that she felt incredibly fortunate to have had Keaton in her life.

Diane Keaton and Sarah Paulson formed a close bond after working together in the 1999 film *The Other Sister*, Paulson’s first big movie role. Paulson remembers Keaton being incredibly kind, energetic, and teaching her how to find the rhythm in a scene. She felt intimidated at the time, but Keaton quickly became a mentor and a cherished friend. Their connection remained strong even during the pandemic; Paulson’s first dinner out after 17 months of lockdown was with Keaton, and she attended Keaton’s daughter’s wedding shortly after. Paulson shared on *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* that Keaton playfully calls her the “dumbest person” she knows, which she believes is a sign of affection. In 2021, Paulson interviewed Keaton for *Interview* magazine, and during their conversation, Paulson jokingly told Keaton, “You can say me,” when asked what brings her joy, to which Keaton happily responded, “Of course, Sarah, you make my heart sing.”
