Electronic Arts announced that Battlefield 6 has had a hugely successful launch, selling over 7 million copies and becoming the best-selling game in the series’ history.
This information confirms an analyst’s prediction from earlier this week, which estimated around 7 million copies sold – a very strong start, similar to a new Call of Duty game.
According to Anliena Analytics’ Rhys Elliott, the game’s launch numbers are more comparable to those of the Call of Duty franchise than any previous high-end shooter from EA. The key now is whether EA can build on this strong start and create a game that remains popular for years to come.
Battlefield 6 is incredibly popular on Steam, recently hitting a peak of over 747,000 players at the same time. This is the highest number of concurrent players any EA game has ever seen on the platform, surpassing even the free-to-play game Apex Legends, which reached 624,000.
Battlefield 6’s first season begins October 28th, and many believe this is when the battle royale game type will also become available. The season continues with updates called Rogue Ops on November 18th and Winter Offensive on December 9th. Each update will introduce fresh content like new maps, game modes, and weapons.
Battlefield 6 started strong, but it’s unclear whether it can surpass a Call of Duty game in sales – something it’s never done before. Before its release, most experts predicted that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 would actually sell better than Battlefield 6.
