MoistCr1TiKaL reveals how he made $35M on YouTube before disabling monetization

YouTuber MoistCr1TiKaL shared that he earned a remarkable $35 million from YouTube, even though he turned off the platform’s standard monetization features.

On October 9th, Charles White Jr., also known as MoistCr1TiKaL, announced he was disabling ways for viewers to send him money on YouTube and Twitch. This includes turning off Super Chats, channel memberships, and asking people not to subscribe to his Twitch channel.

The creator explained he didn’t want fans to spend money on him, and encouraged anyone who felt inclined to donate to give to charity instead.

A week after his initial announcement, MoistCr1TiKaL reaffirmed his choice to stop earning money through YouTube and revealed his total earnings from the platform since he began creating content in 2007.

Charles started by sharing how much money he’s made on Twitch, mentioning he only began streaming in 2017.

So, I was playing around with content creation from 2017 to 2019, and it actually turned into a decent side hustle. I made about $55,500 over those two years, all with just over 14,000 subscribers – and I wasn’t even streaming full-time! Honestly, it was mostly just for fun, a way to goof off and enjoy gaming.

Between 2019 and 2021, he streamed much more often, and his earnings grew to $1,285,782. Importantly, this happened before he signed a contract with Twitch, meaning the ads shown during his streams were automatically placed by the platform.

So, after landing a deal where they could run three minutes of ads every hour, I was amazed to learn he made $4,158,749 between the beginning of 2021 and the end of 2024! It’s incredible to see that kind of success.

Moist points out that the reported figures don’t include income from sponsorships or brand partnerships, meaning his actual earnings were even higher.

He explained that it felt wrong to accept donations from people working hard at their jobs, hoping to achieve their goals, who might then watch his stream and contribute a small amount. Considering how much money he’d already earned, he felt uncomfortable taking their money.

I should have dealt with this much sooner, and that’s even considering this is only part of the problem.

MoistCr1TiKaL reveals mammoth YouTube earnings of $35M

Moist shared his impressive earnings from YouTube, revealing a lifetime revenue of $35.8 million after previously displaying his Twitch statistics.

Honestly, I was blown away to find out you could make this much money without having a silver spoon in your mouth. I’ve been saying from the start, I just got incredibly lucky. I’m not some naturally gifted player or anything – it’s pure luck that got me here.

YouTube ads were by far his biggest source of income, bringing in $37.7 million. Memberships contributed a distant second at $560,000, followed by Super Chats at $508,000, and a very small amount – $2,500 – from ads on Shorts.

He only used those features for about a year, so his numbers would likely be much higher if he’d continued using them.

The video’s creator finished by explaining he wasn’t bothered that other, more successful YouTubers continued to receive subscriptions and donations. He clarified he wasn’t attempting to start a movement or change things.

He also mentioned that many creators seem to downplay their financial success, fearing it might make them seem less relatable to their audience and damage their personal brand.

Moist shared that he’s earned $41.3 million from Twitch and YouTube, hoping it will give fans a better understanding of how much other popular creators are making.
