‘X-Men ’97’ Gets Season 3 Update With Season 2 First Look & Release Date

Fans have been eagerly waiting, and now we know when *X-Men ’97* will be back on Disney+. This show is a continuation of the popular *X-Men: The Animated Series* and is considered by many to be one of the best X-Men stories ever told, as well as a standout achievement for Marvel Studios and Marvel Animation. It’s their highest-rated project, scoring 99%, and also the best-reviewed part of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga so far. The first season ended with a big cliffhanger in May 2024, leaving fans excited for the second season.

Marvel Studios announced at New York Comic-Con that Season 2 of *X-Men ’97* will premiere on Disney+ in the summer of 2026, though a specific date hasn’t been revealed. The show has also been renewed for a third season. Marvel shared the official logo for Season 2 on X (formerly Twitter), and you can view it below.

2026 Will be the Year of ‘X-Men’

The upcoming release of *X-Men ’97* in the summer of 2026 is significant because Marvel usually saves the summer months for its live-action shows, like *Loki*, *Ms. Marvel*, and *Ironheart*. Since Marvel’s next big movie, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, isn’t scheduled until late July 2026, there will be a gap in major releases for most of the summer. The fact that *X-Men ’97* Season 2 is stepping in to fill that slot demonstrates how much confidence Marvel has in the series.

Although launching *X-Men ’97* in early May would follow the pattern of Marvel movies starting the summer season, that time is still technically spring for marketing and announcements. A true summer launch would likely mean a debut around Memorial Day, which makes sense considering *X-Men: The Last Stand* and *X-Men: Days of Future Past* both opened on that weekend. However, aiming for June 2026 would give *X-Men ’97* a good head start before *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* arrives in theaters.

Season 2 of *X-Men ’97* is shaping up to be even more intense than the first, with actor Ross Marquand hinting at significant character deaths. This suggests big things are coming for the future of *X-Men ’97*, which is currently in production and expected to premiere in 2027. With Season 2, the upcoming *Wolverine* game from Insomniac, and the classic X-Men from 20th Century Fox potentially appearing in *Avengers: Doomsday*, 2026 looks like it will be a huge year for X-Men fans.
