The original *Five Nights at Freddy’s* film featured Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, a man who takes a job as a nighttime security guard at a rundown pizza restaurant to provide for himself and his sister. Things quickly go wrong for Mike, as the restaurant is haunted by animatronic characters possessed by the spirits of children murdered by the serial killer William Afton. The first movie left the door open for a continuation, and with the *FNaF* game series being so extensive, the announcement of a sequel wasn’t a surprise.

Both Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson will be back for the sequel. This is surprising because Lillard’s character died in the first movie. The surviving characters – Mike (Hutcherson), his psychic sister Abby (Piper Rubio), and Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail), who is the daughter of a serial killer – are all expected to return. The games suggest Vanessa isn’t as friendly as she appears in the first film, and she might even become the main villain in *FNaF 2: Still Freddy After All These Years*.

During CinemaCon, Universal’s distribution chief Jim Orr shared that plans for fall 2025 are still preliminary. The first *Freddy* movie was released in theaters and on Peacock at the same time for Halloween, and it’s likely a similar approach will be used in 2025.
