Team Cherry has disclosed the details of the initial update for Hollow Knight: Silksong, and these changes seem aimed at making the game’s early stages less challenging without eliminating the overall difficulty entirely.
Following its debut on September 4, Silksong has swiftly emerged as one of the most popular games in 2025. In less than a week’s time, its player base surpassed five million, causing a rush as many platforms struggled to handle the overwhelming demand for simultaneous downloads.
Although there’s been a lot of positive feedback, it’s not all sunshine and roses. Some enthusiasts have expressed concerns over the game’s challenging nature, with a few opting to use modifications to soften the difficulty level.
The upcoming version 1.0.28470 has been announced, which aims to resolve several problems. However, keep in mind that the game won’t suddenly become easy when it launches.
Do we know when the 1.0.28470 update goes live?
The developers haven’t specified an exact date just yet, but they’ve mentioned that it should be released in the middle of next week, assuming all goes smoothly. So, we can expect it to come out somewhere around September 17, though there might be a slight variation either way.
If you’re using a PC, you can get the latest update immediately by navigating to the public-beta branch on Steam.
First Silksong update nerfs early bosses
The update, predominantly designed to fix software glitches (apologies for the unintentional pun), also tackles some of the challenging early-game bosses with greater ease.
Moving forward, Moorwing and Sister Splinter are expected to experience a “less challenging encounter.” The developers haven’t provided specifics yet, but this change might imply that they will no longer inflict double mask damage per strike, or it could involve making their attacks more avoidable.
If it’s just described as a minor adjustment, it’s more probable that it’s close to the second option or something equally small.
