Currently, The Conjuring: The Last Rites is dominating global cinema, an impressive feat for the final installment of the series. Despite this, director Michael Chaves is pondering potential directions for the franchise’s future.
In an astounding display of box office success, The Conjuring: Last Rites has surpassed all other horror films in opening weekend earnings, raking in a staggering $194 million worldwide, eclipsing the $190 million earned by It back in 2017.
The movie wraps up the tale of Ed and Lorraine Warren. In our Conjuring: Last Rites review, we state that as portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, the duo: “anchors the films, evokes strong emotions, and aids in making the unimaginable seem real – ultimately, it is their story that takes center stage. This tale offers the Warrens a fitting end.
However, although this film was promoted as the concluding chapter in The Conjuring series, there’s a possibility of a spin-off given an unusual acquisition made recently.
Conjuring director wants Matt Rife to star opposite Annabelle in sequel

In August, comedian Matt Rife became the new owner of the Connecticut house and its on-site Occult Museum, which is where the famous Annabelle doll resides. Therefore, Rife has taken possession of the actual Annabelle.
The director of The Conjuring: Last Rites, Michael Chaves, expresses concern over the safety of the comic, jokingly admitting to Entertainment Weekly, “I’m quite concerned… really concerned. I’m not sure. As long as he has the instructions or the blessing procedure, everything should be alright. I’m just curious. I haven’t read enough about it yet to understand why he did it.
However, given his skills as a master storyteller, Chaves also recognizes the potential in this crossover, expressing: “It certainly seems like an exciting new beginning. If there were to be a second phase in the [Conjuring] series, I believe it should commence with him somehow expanding on these viral stories about each artifact, and things taking a dark turn.

In a past interview with People, the cast members of The Conjuring films were asked about their thoughts on Rife acquiring the haunted artifacts. Vera Farmiga, who portrays Lorraine Warren, expressed her curiosity, stating, “I’d be interested to learn more from him,” and further mentioned her eagerness to understand “his motives.
While Patrick Wilson (known as Ed Warren) expressed concerns about the publicity it might attract, he stated, “It’s a quiet residential area with neighbors all around… so I am intrigued. I can hardly fathom the residents of that street would welcome lines of cars paying to enter their house.
