As the release of Tron: Ares approaches in just two days, Jared Leto has been discussing his role in the film. Continuing his work in science fiction, Leto recently shared details about how he prepared to play an AI character with no prior history, in an interview about the Joachim Rønning-directed movie.
Jared Leto says his Tron: Ares character was ‘all about efficiency’
The Academy Award-winning actor described his unique role in Tron: Ares, explaining that playing the main character felt like becoming a quiet, disciplined samurai warrior.
Jared Leto noted that it can be simpler to build a character with a lot of established background, something he’s accustomed to doing with complex roles. He was discussing the fact that his character, Ares, doesn’t have much of a defined history. Leto described Ares as someone focused purely on getting things done, comparing him to a disciplined and precise samurai warrior who avoids any unnecessary action.
The actor, who previously played the Joker, described his character as initially reserved and not prone to sharing his emotions. However, he explained that the character undergoes a transformation throughout the film. While acknowledging the limited time to fully develop characters in a large-scale movie, the actor emphasized the extensive discussions about Ares’s journey of discovering and experiencing human emotions for the first time, which he found enjoyable and stimulating.
Jared Leto stars in *Tron: Ares*, a new film about humanity’s first encounter with artificial intelligence. The movie also features Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jeff Bridges, Cameron Monaghan, and is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 10, 2025. It’s a standalone sequel to the original *Tron*.
