GameStop Restocks Shiny Pokemon Codes As Fans Complain Of Scarcity And Scalping

The recent Pokémon event at GameStop has been disappointing for many fans. GameStop was giving away cards with codes for the rare Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon Pokémon, usable in the Scarlet and Violet games, starting on September 26th. However, the codes ran out quickly. While GameStop did get another shipment of codes this past weekend, there was a new issue with them.

GameStop says it has around 50 codes available at each store for a new promotion. Instead of collectible cards, these codes will be printed directly on purchase receipts. GameStop also notes that this second round of codes is very limited, and they promise to distribute every code they get, with the possibility of receiving more from The Pokémon Company if they become available.

Regarding Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon codes

Pokémon fans are upset about a recent event, citing a limited number of promotional codes and the fact that people are reselling them on sites like eBay for inflated prices. Many feel that even 50 codes per store isn’t enough to satisfy the demand. When customers complained about the scarcity, GameStop simply stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the limited supply wasn’t their fault, attributing the decision to The Pokémon Company.

GameStop originally obtained the extra codes by repeatedly asking The Pokémon Company until they agreed to provide them. The event to receive Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon will conclude on October 15th.

As a Pokémon fan, I’ve noticed that the recent distributions for Scarlet and Violet have been super easy! They’re using the Mystery Gift feature in the game, which means you just need an internet connection to get the freebies. The best part? You don’t need any codes at all – no hunting around for physical codes or anything like that. It’s just a simple, online process, which is awesome!

The next Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, will be available on Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2 starting October 16th. The action RPG will also get downloadable content after launch, and future distribution events are planned. Hopefully, these events will run more smoothly than previous ones.
