Outward 2 delayed to 2027

Nine Dots Studio has revealed that Outward 2 will be released for PC (on Steam, Epic, and GOG) through Early Access in 2027.

Outward, previously planned for release on July 7th, will now launch in 2027. Nine Dots Studio CEO and Outward 2 Creative Director, Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, explained the delay in a message, which you can read below. More information is available on the official website.

Nine Dots Studio has delayed the launch of Outward 2. It will no longer enter Early Access on July 7th, and is now planned for release in 2027. The studio says they’ll share a more precise release date soon. Here’s a statement from Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, CEO and Creative Director at Nine Dots Studio:

Hi everyone,

We understand this may come as a surprise, especially since we recently announced Aurai would be available this summer. However, we’ve realized that sticking to our original plan could result in a game that doesn’t meet your expectations. We don’t want to disappoint Outward fans – many of you have asked for more development time, and we’ve been listening. That’s the purpose of playtesting, and we will be taking your feedback seriously.

It’s really disappointing to share this news, especially knowing some of you scheduled your summer plans around our release date. I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience. Ultimately, though, it would be even worse if you spent your vacation playing a game you didn’t enjoy.

It’s tricky to decide how polished the game needs to be for the Early Access release. We’re being really honest with ourselves: in a few weeks, will this version be good enough to justify a purchase? We want a significant improvement between this playtest and the full Early Access launch so players feel confident in their support. We remember the success of the first Outward was built on player trust, and we want you to feel good about being part of Outward 2 again.

We want to thank everyone who helped us with beta testing and playtests, and who shared their feedback, news, or chatted with us on streams or Discord. We’re really sorry we couldn’t deliver the game on the timeline we hoped for. Game development can be tough, and this feels like a setback, but we’re using it as a chance to improve and come back stronger.

Guillaume AKA Gheeyom

CEO and Creative Director

Outward 2 will be available on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
