The owners of an ice cream shop were arrested for confronting a customer who had posted a negative online review. They are now facing harassment charges.
Many businesses depend on their online reviews to succeed. Positive reviews attract new customers, while negative ones can seriously harm a company’s reputation and lead to its failure.
Sometimes, when you receive a negative review, the best approach is to fix the issues it highlights. Other businesses, though, will try to have the review removed, essentially trying to hide the criticism.
When Daniel Smit gave Malary and Ryan Goldman’s Local Scoop ice cream shop in Alabama a one-star review, they didn’t ignore it or try to offer compensation. Instead, the Goldmans decided to directly address the issue with Smit himself.
Ice cream shop owners clash with critic over review
According to Smit, the store owners contacted him because he’d previously voiced concerns about the store’s decor, an incorrect order he received, and what he felt were excessively high prices for families.
Goldman angrily told him, “I worked incredibly hard on this, and you’re going to ruin it!” She warned him that continuing down that path wouldn’t benefit him, and asked if he understood.
Smit stated that Malary assaulted him and inappropriately touched his chest three times before damaging his phone.
Malary and Ryan Goldman were both arrested on June 11th. Malary was charged with harassment and damaging property, while Ryan faced a single charge of harassment. Both were quickly released.
Smit shared with WEAR News that while he thought about suing the owners, this won’t stop him from continuing to review restaurants in the future.
Malary apologized to Smit, saying she felt embarrassed by her behavior. Smit admitted he was also ashamed of what occurred.
He said he was sorry if he upset Ms. Goldman, and that everyone will eventually put this behind them, according to WKRG.
I recently heard about something crazy! Apparently, a restaurant owner named Troy Beck said an influencer actually offered to do a review video for his place – but wanted only $1,200 or $1,800 in return. It’s so different from what you usually hear about these things!
Beck was also threatened with legal action after revealing the offer.
