Tales of Seikyu starts in a famous fox village filled with all sorts of Yokai spirits – some friendly, others less so! You’ll build and grow a farmhouse on the island of Seikyu, getting to know these unique creatures as you play. And who knows, you might even wish you could become one of them!
It is indeed possible to transform into Yokai in the game. You can unlock these forms by finding special masks and scrolls hidden throughout the island’s ruins. Becoming a Yokai grants you powerful abilities that can help you win tough battles against the island’s strongest monsters, or even make everyday tasks like gathering resources much simpler. Here’s a guide on how to unlock and use every Yokai form in Tales of Seikyu.
What Are Yokai Forms in Tales of Seikyu?

In Tales of Seikyu, you play as a fox with the special power to transform into different Yokai – spirits from Japanese folklore. Though you’ll spend most of the game appearing as a human, your ultimate goal is to regain your original fox form. You’ll have to unlock several other spirit forms first, but achieving this transformation will be incredibly rewarding.
As explained in more detail below, each Yokai form has special abilities that help you solve puzzles, explore new locations like the Fox Ruins, and reach areas previously unavailable to you in human form. Getting all of these forms is crucial for progressing through the game, but thankfully, they’re unlocked automatically as you play the main story.
How to Unlock and Upgrade All Yokai Forms in Tales of Seikyu
In Tales of Seikyu, your character can unlock six different Yokai forms throughout the story. You’ll find them by exploring and completing rooms in the cave dungeon under the Fox Ruins, and each form offers special abilities both during battles and while exploring.
Most of your Yokai forms can be made more powerful by upgrading their attacks. You can check a Yokai’s details and upgrade options in the ‘Forms’ menu. Upgrades require both money and Talismans, which you can get by completing rooms in the underground cave dungeon at the Fox Ruins, located north of Seikyu town.
You don’t unlock new powers for your basic Human form, but you can still improve it. Upgrading your Human form lets you use more powerful weapons.

It’s possible to get the Fox form quite early in the game, but this might be fixed in a future update! From the cave entrance, head down the main hallway until you see a waterfall covering a gap. Transform into your Boar form and run and jump across the gap to reach the ledge with the treasure chest – it contains the Sun Wheel Ring. Then, carefully go behind the waterfall and continue down the hall. You’ll find another chest on a raised platform to your left. Opening this chest will give you the scroll needed to unlock the Fox form!
- How to Use: This form can be used to tame monsters, and upgrading the form will allow you to tame them more easily, and includes elite monsters as well.
- Maximum Upgrade Level: 8
