Mark Hamill Officially Joins Peacock’s 3-Part Post-Apocalyptic Series

Mark Hamill is playing a father in Twisted Metal season 3.

This series is adapted from the popular video game of the same name, taking place in a future, ruined America. Anthony Mackie stars as John Doe, a man on a mission to deliver a strange package across a dangerous landscape. In the second season, he joins the high-stakes, chaotic Twisted Metal competition. The main cast also features Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet, Sweet Tooth (played by Joe Seanoa and voiced by Will Arnett), and Calypso, portrayed by Anthony Carrigan.

Deadline reports that Mark Hamill has joined season 3 of Twisted Metal as Pope Charlie Kane, Sweet Tooth’s father and leader of the Eastern Sovereignty. He will have a recurring role in the Peacock series, which is based on the popular video games. Here’s what star and executive producer Mackie said about the casting:

I still can’t believe Mark Hamill is joining us on this project! I’ve been a huge fan for years – he’s a total legend and has inspired so many actors, myself included. It’s an incredible honor to be working alongside him now, and I’m really excited to see what he does with his role in Twisted Metal.

Charlie Kane is a character featured in the Twisted Metal video game series. He first appeared prominently in the original 1995 Twisted Metal game as a competitor who drives the Yellow Jacket. In Twisted Metal: Black (2001), he appears as a corpse manipulated by his son, Sweet Tooth. The 2012 Twisted Metal game introduces a reimagined version of Charlie as Sweet Tooth’s son.

Peacock’s Twisted Metal season 2 was a huge success, racking up an impressive 993 million minutes of viewing time. The streaming service announced both the show’s renewal for a third season and revealed it was their most popular returning scripted original. Despite the show’s popularity, there have been some behind-the-scenes changes: David Reed is now the showrunner and an executive producer, taking over from Michael Jonathan Smith.

The first season of Twisted Metal received a 67% approval rating from critics, but the second season was much better received with a score of 92%. Grant Hermanns of ScreenRant gave season 2 seven out of ten stars, praising it as an enjoyable adaptation of the game, though he wished there had been more vehicle-based action. Audience scores have also been consistently positive, with 88% for season 1 and 82% for season 2.

With Mark Hamill joining the cast, Twisted Metal aims to build on the success it saw with its second season, which received high ratings and positive reviews. Hamill has been busy in 2025 with several notable projects: he played The Major in The Long Walk, Albie Krantz in The Life of Chuck, and the Flying Dutchman in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. He also returned as Art Rosenbaum in season four of Invincible and provided a voice role as an alternate Luke Skywalker in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.

Twisted Metal joins the growing list of projects featuring Mark Hamill after his iconic role in Star Wars. He’s also lent his voice to numerous animated series and films like SpongeBob, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and several Marvel and DC properties – including Batman and Invincible – as well as Masters of the Universe and Kingsman (where he had a brief appearance). His part in Twisted Metal will be one of his more substantial live-action roles.
