James Barker, a producer for Love Island USA, has passed away at age 40. He experienced a sudden medical issue last week while in Fiji filming the show. Barker began working on the series in 2020 as an executive producer and will be honored with a special tribute during Tuesday’s episode. According to a statement from ITV America and Peacock, his death has been deeply felt by everyone involved with Love Island USA, as well as throughout both companies. They described him as a kind, talented, and dedicated member of their team who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Adam Roth, Barker’s partner, fondly recalled their bond and shared love of music. He told People magazine, “James was my absolute light and love. He brought joy and brilliance to everything he did.” Roth explained that they met at a Billie Eilish concert and that live music played a big role in their relationship.
Barker was key in choosing the memorable songs featured on Love Island USA, often highlighting up-and-coming artists. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he described how rewarding it was to give these musicians exposure. “Seeing videos of them watching their song on TV for the first time is amazing,” he said. “As a music lover, that’s the coolest thing ever.”
