Off Campus is getting controversial.
Prime Video’s new show, based on Elle Kennedy’s popular book series, is a huge hit! It’s quickly become one of the streamer’s most-watched programs, even surpassing established hits like The Boys. In just 12 days, Off Campus has attracted 36 million viewers, making it the third-biggest series launch in Prime Video’s history.
A point of discussion surrounding the movie Off Campus is the age gap between its stars, Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli. Bright was 18 when filming began, while Cameli is 28. Addressing the topic on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Bright explained that she never felt excluded or out of place due to the age difference.
It feels like we’re all one big family, and everyone is wonderful to work with. I feel completely comfortable and at ease on set with these people, so it’s amusing when people comment on how I might be feeling. I’m honestly doing great.
As a total movie and TV buff, I found it interesting that the lead actress said she really did her homework before starting this job. She knew exactly what the role needed and understood the whole show going in. It’s a romance series centered around college hockey players – their lives, loves, and friendships with the women around them. And it dropped right after Heated Rivalry, which was a huge success – seriously, it broke records with its first season, and that one was definitely not for everyone with its R-rating!
Adapting books for television is increasingly popular, thanks to the success of shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty, Bridgerton, and Rivals (which is currently in its second season). The hugely popular book Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is also being made into a Prime Video series, with Michael B. Jordan involved as a producer.
Okay, so I’m already hearing some interesting stuff about Off Campus! They’ve greenlit a second season before the first one even dropped worldwide – that’s a good sign, right? But here’s the twist: it’s going to follow two new main characters, Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn, and Allie, played by Mika Abdalla. Sadly, Josh Heuston, who played Justin Kohl (Hannah’s crush!), won’t be back. And speaking of Allie, she’s already creating buzz – apparently, her J-Lo costume went viral, so she’s definitely one to watch!
I’m really excited for Off Campus season 2, but unfortunately, there’s no confirmed release date yet. The good news is, you can watch the first season on Prime Video right now if you haven’t already!
