Prime Video’s Spider-Man Show Is So Good, It Should Be Renewed For Season 2

As a huge Marvel fan, I have to say the new Spider-Man show on MGM+ and Prime Video is genuinely one of the best they’ve ever done – it needs a second season! It’s great knowing that while Tom Holland is our Spider-Man in the main Marvel movies, this show isn’t totally tied to that timeline. Because Sony still owns the Spider-Man rights, they can really play with different versions of Spider-Man and his characters in any way they want – animated, live-action, whatever! It opens up so many possibilities, and this show proves it.

Aside from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the biggest Spider-Man news recently has been Sony’s animated Spider-Verse trilogy. The third movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently planned to come out in June 2027. With a huge number of different Spider-People, one of the most interesting characters is Spider-Man Noir – a black-and-white version of Spider-Man who wears a trench coat and fights crime in 1930s New York. He first appeared on screen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, even though the character originally debuted in the 2008 comic book Spider-Man Noir #1.

Following his memorable voice performance as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Verse, Nicolas Cage is now playing the character in live-action. The new eight-episode series, Spider-Noir, available on MGM+ and Prime Video, stars Cage as Ben Reilly, also known as The Spider. Importantly, this version of Spider-Noir isn’t connected to the story from Spider-Verse. The creators simply loved Cage’s performance so much they brought him back for another go – and it was a great decision.

Nicolas Cage delivers a uniquely intense and captivating performance as Spider-Man, who’s been retired for five years but is pulled back into action. He’s now a private investigator haunted by the loss of his fiancée, and a new case throws him into a dangerous world of science, organized crime, and murder. The series is a surprisingly fresh and enjoyable take on the Spider-Man story, and it’s definitely promising enough for multiple seasons.

Spider-Noir Is The Best Spider-Man TV Show In Decades

Spider-Man is famous for his movies, but he’s also appeared in 14 different TV shows – everything from classic animated cartoons and old-fashioned live-action series to a unique Japanese version. Not all of these shows were successful, but many fans agree that the 2008 animated series Spectacular Spider-Man is the best. Oren Uziel’s Spider-Noir is also highly praised and stands out as one of the best live-action Marvel shows ever created, alongside hits like Marvel’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Loki, and Legion.

Spider-Noir successfully combines classic Spider-Man action with a compelling detective story, creating a surprisingly cinematic experience for a streaming series. It offers a fresh take on the superhero’s usual adventures. What sets it apart isn’t just the option to watch in striking black and white (a color version is also available), but also the way it blends genres and portrays Ben Reilly as a struggling hero, resulting in a truly unique and captivating atmosphere.

One of the most appealing things about Spider-Noir is how easy it is to jump into. You don’t need to have seen any other Marvel movies or shows – it works perfectly as its own story. It has something for all viewers, with Nicolas Cage leading a talented and energetic cast that includes Lamorne Morris from New Girl and Brendan Gleeson from Harry Potter. The show starts with a quick narrated summary of the main character’s life, so you don’t need any prior knowledge to enjoy it.

Even though the first season of Spider-Noir wraps up its main mystery neatly – likely because it was intended as a single, self-contained story – Ben Reilly’s job as a private investigator leaves plenty of room for future adventures set in 1930s New York. That’s what’s great about detective stories: there’s always a new case to solve and a new person to help. Plus, there’s potential for more super-powered individuals to be lurking in the city’s dark and hidden places.

According to showrunner Uziel, a second season of Spider-Noir would take place during the turbulent years leading up to World War II. This setting would naturally build on the character of Ben’s backstory, as his powers and experiences are rooted in his time as a World War I veteran. Uziel believes there’s plenty of story potential for a second season and hopes the show’s success will allow it to happen.

All episodes of Spider-Noir are streaming now on MGM+ and Prime Video.
