Steven Spielberg’s Gritty $618M Sci-Fi Thriller Officially Releases On New Streaming Home After Making 8x Its Budget

Steven Spielberg‘s huge sci-fi box office hit is coming to a new streaming home.

Steven Spielberg is widely considered one of Hollywood’s most successful directors. He’s created many iconic films across different genres, including classics like Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and Saving Private Ryan. While he’s excelled at everything he’s directed, Spielberg is particularly known for his science fiction films, which are some of the best ever made. Now, fans can enjoy another one of his sci-fi masterpieces on a new streaming platform.

Peacock will be adding a lot of new content in June, including The Lost World: Jurassic Park, which arrives on the streaming service on June 1st. That same day, you’ll also be able to stream movies like The Fast and the Furious, The A-Team, Brokeback Mountain, and How to Train Your Dragon. Plus, the original Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III will also become available on Peacock.

Spielberg’s final dinosaur film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, didn’t quite reach the blockbuster status of the original—which earned close to $1 billion. However, the 1997 sequel was still a huge hit. With a production budget of $73 million, The Lost World needed to earn between $146 and $182.5 million in theaters to cover its costs. It easily surpassed that goal, ultimately grossing $618.6 million worldwide.

The sequel to Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg, was a huge financial success, earning eight times its production budget and a profit of several hundred million dollars. This makes it a major win for the franchise. Starting in June, Peacock subscribers will be able to enjoy this blockbuster hit, along with the entire original Jurassic Park trilogy. Interestingly, the film performed better financially than with critics. The Lost World: Jurassic Park currently has a 57% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and a slightly lower 52% audience score.

Just before Steven Spielberg returns to directing science fiction films in theaters, two of his classic Jurassic Park movies will be available to stream on Peacock. His new film, Disclosure Day – about someone revealing the existence of aliens – hits theaters June 12th. Spielberg is again working with screenwriter David Koepp, who previously wrote both Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Streaming these films on Peacock is a great way for fans to prepare for Spielberg’s latest project, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park is especially worth a re-watch.
