NACON and Midgar Studio revealed a free demo for their JRPG, Edge of Memories, during the Indie Quest 2026 event. Created with help from famous artists in the genre, the demo will be available on Steam starting June 15, 2026, as part of Steam Next Fest, letting players experience the start of the story with the character Eline. Edge of Memories is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Steam later in 2026.
The demo begins with the first chapter of the game. You play as Eline, who wakes up on a beautiful beach on the Estfalian Coast and meets Ysoris, a traveler with unusual mechanical parts. Though she’s cautious, Eline agrees to help him reach the nearby village. There, they team up to save hunters who have been kidnapped by monsters created by something called the Corrosion. During this, players will get a feel for the game’s combat, learning Eline’s initial moves and Ysoris’ skills. You’ll also discover how to exploit enemy weaknesses and craft helpful potions at campsites.
The quest culminates in a battle against the game’s first boss, revealing a secret ability of Eline’s: she can transform into the Black Beast. This gives her a burst of immense strength, allowing her to inflict heavy damage and deliver a powerful finishing attack. Interestingly, she has no memory of anything that happens while in this transformed state.
This demo lets you play the start of the game’s story, covering the first chapter with around two hours of gameplay. You’ll get to explore the Estfalian Coast, the game’s initial area, and even battle a challenging boss.
