To celebrate the launch of Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl is hitting movie theaters this weekend – and it might take some time before you can watch it online.
In the past year, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was a huge success, earning more than $2 billion from almost 150 concerts globally.
Last October, the concert film became available in cinemas for fans who hadn’t been able to secure tickets. It earned over $267 million globally – a record-breaking amount for a concert movie – and Taylor Swift took an unusual approach by releasing it independently, without relying on a major studio distributor.
There are lots of films showing in cinemas this weekend, including The Smashing Machine, Good Boy, and a re-release of Avatar 2. But fans of Taylor Swift – known as Swifties – will be heading to the cinemas in large numbers, and hopefully will be able to watch the concert film at home eventually.
How to watch Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl
Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl is available only in movie theaters starting Friday, October 3.
Most major movie theaters are showing it, but tickets are going fast! Since it’s only playing in theaters until October 5th, you’ll need to act quickly to get yours.
The release event will feature the first-ever showing of the music video for ‘The Fate of Ophelia’, “plus footage of how the video was made, new lyric videos, and Taylor’s personal thoughts on songs from her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl,” according to the event description.
Will Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl be on streaming?
Whether Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl will be available on streaming services is still uncertain. If it does become available, Disney Plus is the most probable platform, but fans might have to wait until 2026.
I think there are a couple of big reasons why people are thinking this. First off, the Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) just landed on Disney Plus, which makes it seem like Taylor would probably choose that same platform if the Release Party ever becomes available to stream. It just feels like a natural fit!
Okay, so the concert movie took about 155 days to hit streaming after it was in theaters. If we use that same timeframe and count forward from when the Release Party movie starts showing in cinemas (which is today!), it looks like we won’t be able to watch it at home until around March 2026. That’s a long wait! I’m already setting a reminder in my calendar!
Streaming could happen sooner than expected, considering people might want to watch it repeatedly, unlike the Eras Tour which was a one-time event. Think about it: fans will likely want to re-experience the concert whenever they want. However, if the Release Party features a music video that’s coming out soon, delaying its streaming release until next year wouldn’t make much sense. It’s a matter of timing.
