Xbox renames official X account to XBOX after fan vote

Xbox has changed its X (formerly Twitter) handle to simply “XBOX” following a fan vote led by CEO Asha Sharma. She asked followers which capitalization style they liked best, and the all-caps version won.

Sharma shared a poll on May 13th asking fans to pick their preferred spelling of ‘Xbox’ – either with all capital letters or not. The all-caps version, ‘XBOX’, was the clear winner.

After more than 19,000 votes were cast, “XBOX” secured 64.8% of the final vote total.

On May 15th, two days after initial hints, the official Xbox account on X (formerly Twitter) officially changed its name to simply “XBOX,” solidifying the new branding.

Though seemingly minor, this change is part of a larger series of adjustments happening since Sharma took over from Phil Spencer earlier this year.

Since becoming head of the company, Sharma has already changed the branding from “Microsoft Gaming” back to just “Xbox.” This is part of a larger effort to appeal to longtime fans.

The company has revisited its approach to games available only on Xbox, as well as its plans for artificial intelligence. They’ve also recently updated how Xbox achievements and game progress are tracked.

These changes are part of a larger effort by Sharma to regain the trust of Xbox players. This comes after several years of debate about exclusive games, what Xbox stands for, and Microsoft’s plans for gaming.

2026 has been a strong year for Xbox games, starting with the highly-rated Forza Horizon 6. The racing game from Playground Games is expected to be followed by a new version of Fable and Gears of War: E-Day, though those titles don’t have confirmed release dates yet.
