Some Christians are adopting a ‘biblical eating‘ lifestyle, where they look to the Bible for guidance on what foods to include or exclude from their diet.
Christianity and food have long been connected. Books like ‘The Eden Diet’ and ‘The Maker’s Diet’ appeared as early as 2004, and the ‘Daniel fast’ – a 21-day plan inspired by the Book of Daniel – has gained popularity, with celebrities such as Chris Pratt and Mark Wahlberg participating.
Recently, this type of eating plan has gained popularity online, thanks to creators like Annalies Xaviera and Kayla Bundy. Bundy even says it dramatically improved her skin, hair, and overall mental well-being.
The diet explained
Ben Bundy follows a diet based on foods mentioned in the Bible. This mainly includes things like bone broth, raw milk, sardines, traditionally-made sourdough bread, and ingredients sourced locally.
Bundy explains her dietary approach on her website, stating that food came before humans in God’s plan. She believes eating in accordance with this plan leads to quick and noticeable improvements in your health.
Xaviera explained that she focuses on a diet of whole, home-cooked foods and avoids processed sugars.
TikTok influencer Bundy, with over half a million followers, admits she’s not a nutrition expert. Despite this, she sells a $28 guide to ‘biblical superfoods’ and offers coaching for $700 per month, according to The New York Times. Xaviera has also built a following – over 300,000 on Facebook – by sharing her diet online, and now sells a digital cookbook.
Xaviera suggests people think about God when deciding what to eat. She asks, “If you’re really wanting something, have you ever considered pausing to pray about it?”
The Bible isn’t the only religious element being commercialized. There’s now an AI version of Jesus you can chat with for a fee, and even a holographic AI Jesus that takes confessions in Switzerland.
