Man on trial for stealing $770k of diamonds and pooing them out represents himself in court

A man in Texas who allegedly stole nearly $770,000 worth of diamonds by swallowing them will represent himself in court after turning down a settlement offer from prosecutors.

Some robbers try to hide stolen goods by swallowing them, hoping to avoid getting caught. This works much better with small items like diamonds than with larger objects like gold bars.

Jaythan Gilder, nicknamed ‘The Man Who Pooped Diamonds,’ gained notoriety after being accused of stealing diamond earrings from a Tiffany store in Orlando, Florida in June 2025. The 33-year-old Texan allegedly pretended to be an assistant to a professional basketball player to gain access to the store’s VIP area.

According to The Smoking Gun, Gilder swallowed earrings worth $609,500 and $160,000 before leading police on a chase.

After a long pursuit, police apprehended him the same day and put him in a patrol car. He then surprisingly asked officers, “Will I be charged with whatever is inside me?” before they searched him.

After smuggling the diamonds inside his body, Gilder spent two weeks trying to pass them naturally. He eventually succeeded during a bowel movement, and also unexpectedly expelled a separate pair of earrings that weren’t connected to the robbery.

The Smoking Gun reports that the 33-year-old has turned down a plea bargain and plans to represent himself at trial.
