Kate Beckinsale Set to Star in New Jaws-Style Shark Thriller

A new action movie featuring great white sharks is coming from Highland Film Group. It’s been over fifty years since the original film first terrified audiences and kept them away from the ocean.

Highland Film Group has announced a new movie called White, which will be available for international buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. Kate Beckinsale, known for her roles in Underworld and Pearl Harbor, will star alongside Katherine McNamara (Shadowhunters, Maze Runner: The Death Cure). Jake West (Evil Aliens) is directing the film, based on a script by Dan Schaffer, who also created the comic book series Dogwitch.

Great White Sharks Seek Their Next Meal in White

I’m really excited about this new film, White! It’s being made by some seriously talented people – Yariv Lerner, who worked on Rambo: Last Blood, Dominic Burns from Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Crawford Anderson-Dillon (5lbs of Pressure), and Sky Morfopoulos (Aura’s Wildcat). Plus, Kate Beckinsale is also an executive producer, alongside a great team from Highland Film Group – Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, Patrick Wintersgill, Kevin Glynn, Pauric Duffy, and Hannah Leader. It sounds like it’s in good hands!

The story follows Willa Harba, an actress desperate for her big break. While traveling on a private jet to a film shoot with a difficult co-star, the plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean. Willa is the only survivor, left stranded on a piece of the wreckage. She manages to find a satellite phone, but her studio boss, Barbara, dismisses her pleas for help. Instead, her call is answered by marine biologist Sam Swatek, who reveals a terrifying truth: the crash site is located in the ‘White Shark Café,’ a dangerous area known for its large concentration of great white sharks.

The actor who will play Willa hasn’t been chosen yet, but we’ll announce the casting soon. Filming is scheduled to begin this summer in Bulgaria, England, and the US.

Kate Beckinsale Lands Her Next Movie Role in White

I just read that Highland Film Group’s CEO, Arianne Fraser, described the new film White as a truly gripping and thrilling experience – a real edge-of-your-seat adventure packed with suspense, heart, and, of course, some seriously scary sharks! Sounds like a must-see for any thriller fan.

We’re thrilled to collaborate with producer Yariv Lerner, a key figure in modern action cinema. Combined with our fantastic cast, including Kate Beckinsale and Katherine McNamara, this film is a great addition to our lineup at Cannes,” said Delphine Perrier, our COO.

Kate Beckinsale is bringing several films to the Cannes Film Festival, including a new zombie movie. This project is based on an original idea from the late horror director George A. Romero, best known for his 1968 classic, Night of the Living Dead. Beckinsale recently appeared in the action films Stolen Girl and Wildcat.

White does not yet have a set release date.
