Tanjiro Kamado, the hero of the story, becomes more powerful as he continues his journey to avenge his family and find a cure for his sister, Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon. After witnessing the horrific murder of everyone he loves and constantly fighting to protect Nezuko from those who want to destroy her, Tanjiro has been forced to develop incredible abilities. It remains to be seen if he’ll be strong enough to defeat Muzan, the main villain.
If you’re eager to know what happens to Tanjiro, you can find all the answers in the Demon Slayer manga, which finished in 2020. Although the anime adaptation started only a year before, it’s finally nearing its end, with the final story arcs scheduled to begin animating in 2025. This has left fans who only watch the anime anxiously awaiting the conclusion. A key question on everyone’s mind is whether Tanjiro will ultimately become a demon himself.
As of May 13, 2026, with the incredible popularity of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, fans are eagerly following Tanjiro Kamado and the Demon Slayer Corps. The fight against Muzan Kibutsuji is still ongoing, and many key questions about the story remain. Fortunately, the answers can be found in the Demon Slayer manga, and some of them are quite surprising!
Tanjiro Kamado Loses His Humanity in Demon Slayer Chapter 201
Becoming a demon isn’t as hard as you’d think, particularly given how often Tanjiro and his companions battle Muzan Kibutsuji’s most powerful demons. In Chapter 201 of Demon Slayer, Tanjiro and Muzan clash in a massive final fight that nearly kills them both. Right before Muzan dies, he transforms Tanjiro into a demon.
Tanjiro Kamado unexpectedly transforms into a dangerous foe for the Demon Slayer Corps, despite once being one of their allies. However, he doesn’t have much time to adjust to this new, hostile role.
Badly wounded and facing death himself, Muzan transferred his blood to Tanjiro. This act transformed Tanjiro into a remarkably powerful demon, potentially surpassing even Muzan’s own strength.
Tanjiro unexpectedly became the new Demon King, and with his mastery of Sun Breathing, he was on track to be the strongest demon ever. He immediately turned against his friends and started fighting them, influenced by Muzan’s whispers urging him to embrace power. Thankfully, Shinobu and Tamayo created a wisteria-based cure that saved Tanjiro – and the world of Demon Slayer – from his destructive path.
Tanjiro’s Transformation Into a Demon Is a Necessary Conclusion to Muzan’s Story
Honestly, the idea of Tanjiro turning into a demon doesn’t shock me at all! He’s already become one of the most powerful Demon Slayers we’ve seen, with so much room to grow. Plus, the connection between him and Nezuko is huge – it really reminded me of Daki and Gyutaro, and even Gyutaro got why Tanjiro is so driven to protect her, suggesting Tanjiro just become a demon to truly be able to do that. It totally makes sense that Muzan would be desperate to turn him, given all of that!
It’s important to remember Tanjiro’s strengths, but also Nezuko’s powers as a demon, considering their family connection. This suggests Tanjiro might develop similar abilities. Given everything, a transformation for Tanjiro feels necessary. Despite his goal to destroy demons, Tanjiro is deeply empathetic and recognizes that some demons didn’t choose their fate.
Throughout Demon Slayer, Tanjiro consistently tries to understand demons, only fighting them when he sees no other option. The story takes a poignant turn when Tanjiro himself becomes a demon, finally understanding the suffering and manipulation they endure. This transformation is particularly impactful because it coincides with Nezuko regaining her humanity, creating a role reversal between the siblings. Now, it’s up to everyone to protect Tanjiro, and his compassionate beliefs begin to resonate with the other Demon Slayers – even Inosuke struggles to carry out his promise to kill him.
Tanjiro represents the culmination of all the sacrifices and losses experienced throughout Demon Slayer. Even after her death, Shinobu Kocho plays a crucial role in victory through her antidote. Kanao makes the selfless decision to use her most powerful Breathing Technique one last time, injecting Tanjiro even at the cost of her own sight. The series’ final battle is unique in that the remaining Demon Slayers unite not to destroy a demon, but to save one. This act is particularly meaningful when considering how the survivors will remember and honor those who have fallen.
Tanjiro’s Demonic Transformation Will Be a Massive Shock to Anime Fans
The anime hasn’t reached the very end of the Demon Slayer story yet, which will show Tanjiro dying and changing into a demon. Currently, the anime has covered everything up to the Infinity Castle Arc, so we’ll have to wait before seeing Tanjiro’s demonic transformation.
Although it’s sad to see Demon Slayer nearing its conclusion with the final anime story arcs, fans are eagerly anticipating how it all ends. Two more Demon Slayer movies are planned, scheduled for 2027 and 2029, and the last one will probably adapt the Sunrise Countdown arc.
In Demon Slayer, becoming the Demon King isn’t just about a name—it signifies incredible strength. That’s why it’s surprising to see Tanjiro eventually transform into a demon and briefly take on the title, despite his humble beginnings. While he doesn’t remain the Demon King for long, the transformation is a significant part of his story.
Understanding the Demon King is crucial. He existed for hundreds of years and was the original source of all demons. As Muzan was nearing death, he transferred his being into Tanjiro, giving him not only immense strength but something far more significant.
This would have made him the first of a new generation of demons in Demon Slayer, and he could have passed on his ability to survive in sunlight to any demons created from his blood. Luckily, Tanjiro didn’t stay the Demon King for long, as he was eventually cured.
If Muzan Kibutsuji had remained the Demon King, it would have been catastrophic for humans. Demons would have been able to roam freely in the daylight, destroying any chance of a peaceful life. Fortunately, Tanjiro Kamado wasn’t alone in his fight, and with the support of his friends, he overcame immense challenges to finally defeat Muzan.
