Get ready to make a splash with the return of a 90s series.
It’s been amazing seeing so many of my favorite shows from the 90s come back lately! We’ve gotten more of Full House with Fuller House on Netflix, and Frasier even got a whole new run after its original 11 seasons. Then there was the return of Twin Peaks in 2017 – so cool! Now, it looks like one of the most popular action shows from the 90s is getting the revival treatment too, and it’s coming to Fox. I’m really excited to see what they do with it!
Fox has confirmed that the new Baywatch series will premiere in January 2027. The announcement was made as part of the network’s 2026-27 season lineup, which also features several other new and returning shows. These include the crime thriller The Interrogator, the dating show Marriage Market, season 3 of Murder in a Small Town, and a holiday season installment of Gordon Ramsay’s Next Level Baker. Baywatch is one of three new shows Fox is launching, and is expected to draw a lot of attention as it reimagines the popular 90s series.
The original Baywatch premiered on September 22, 1989, and ran for 11 seasons. At its height, it became the most-watched TV show in the world, attracting over a billion viewers each week, according to Fox. The series featured stars like David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, and Brooke Burns. Jason Momoa, now known for his roles as Aquaman and Lobo, began his acting career with Baywatch: Hawaii, which covered the show’s last two seasons. Baywatch concluded on May 14, 2001, but a reunion movie followed in 2003.
The Baywatch franchise was reimagined in 2017 with a new movie featuring a fresh cast. Dwayne Johnson played Mitch Buchannon, alongside Zac Efron as Matt Brody and Kelly Rohrbach as C.J. Parker. Original stars David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson made brief appearances as their characters, now mentors. The film was a financial success, earning $177.8 million worldwide on a $69 million budget (according to Box Office Mojo), but it wasn’t well-received by critics, scoring only 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.
As a lifelong fan of Baywatch, I’m really excited about the new reboot coming to Fox! It’s going to be great seeing a new generation of lifeguards protecting those iconic beaches. Stephen Amell, who I loved in Arrow, is taking on the role of Hobie Buchannon, Mitch Buchannon’s son, now a captain himself. The story gets even more interesting when Hobie’s daughter, Charlie, shows up wanting to become a lifeguard too – it’s bound to shake things up for him! The cast also includes Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader, plus a fantastic addition – David Chokachi is returning as Cody Madison! And get this – Livvy Dunne is making her acting debut as Grace. Come January, it feels like the spirit of Baywatch will truly be back on the Southern California shore.
