The creator of a new Japanese game is prohibiting all streaming and online sharing of gameplay footage, meaning fans won’t be able to upload videos or share their experiences online.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is a refreshed version of the beloved 2009 sci-fi visual novel, Steins;Gate. Even though many anime fans already know the story of Rintaro Okabe’s time travels, the developers want to keep some surprises hidden.
The announcement states that users are prohibited from uploading any game content, except for personal screenshots and short video clips.
Steins;Gate devs ban everyone from streaming game
The developers issued a firm warning regarding streaming and uploading gameplay videos, and they posted it on their Japanese website.
Our company doesn’t allow anyone to stream or provide gameplay commentary for Steins;Gate Re:Boot, due to the sensitive nature of the game.
The game developers explained that sharing features within the game are meant for personal use only. Broadcasting or uploading gameplay, however, is considered beyond that intended use.

Basically, players are being asked not to share the game online through streaming, video uploads, or commentary after it’s released.
This decision is unexpected, as games with strong narratives usually permit some streaming with rules to prevent spoilers. It’s even more unusual considering this game is a fresh start of the 2009 story.
The Steam page says new scenarios and improved game features have been included, so this update probably focuses on maintaining those additions.
It’s still unclear exactly how the game developers will implement these limitations, but if you plan on playing the revamped game, you might want to keep your game private for now.
Currently, a specific release date for Steins;Gate Re:Boot hasn’t been announced, only that it’s expected sometime in 2026. It will be available to purchase and play on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, the new Switch model, and PC – it won’t be a streaming-only game.
