After 5 Years, The Chestnut Man Season 2 Finally Arrives on Netflix

The popular series is back for a second season after a long hiatus, and it’s already a hit with viewers. It quickly climbed the streaming charts upon its release.

The Danish horror thriller, The Chestnut Man, first appeared on Netflix in 2021. After a five-year wait, the second season, titled The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek, was released on May 7th. Currently, the series is ranked fifth among Netflix’s most popular TV shows worldwide (according to FlixPatrol). It’s also the number one show in several countries, including Denmark, Norway, and Ukraine.

The Chestnut Man Returns After 5-Year Wait

The first season of The Chestnut Man centers around detectives Naia Thulin and Mark Hess as they hunt a killer targeting women. Each victim is found with a unique clue: a small figure crafted from chestnuts and matchsticks. The investigation becomes more complex when the figurines are connected to the deceased daughter of a well-known politician, bringing hidden truths to light and ultimately revealing the killer’s identity.

Season two of The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek finds detectives Thulin and Hess teaming up again to investigate a disturbing new serial killer. This time, the killer uses unsettling children’s rhymes and a twisted version of hide-and-seek as part of their crimes. Though the signature chestnut figurines aren’t present, the series maintains the same dark, atmospheric Nordic noir style as the detectives work to solve the case.

The Chestnut Man Holds a 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score

The series has received widespread praise. The first season maintains a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is remarkable. While there aren’t enough reviews yet to calculate a score for Season 2, all reviews so far have been positive. For example, Felipe Rangel called it “easily one of Netflix’s best TV shows of all time.”

Karina Adelgaard from Heaven of Horror gave Season 2 a perfect 5/5 rating and urges viewers to watch all the episodes at once, saying it’s hard to stop! She recommends enjoying the suspense and trying to solve the mystery, even as you start to figure things out. She specifically highlights the captivating nature of The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek.

I’m really excited about The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek! I know it stars Sofie Gråbøl and Katinka Lærke Petersen, alongside Curcic and Følsgaard. It’s based on a book by Søren Sveistrup, which I’ve heard great things about. Morten Kjems Hytten Juhl and Stine Meldgaard Madsen are producing it, with Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen as the executive producer – it sounds like a great team is behind it!
