Nicolas Cage Does Something Different With Pig

This moving film stars Nicolas Cage as Rob, a solitary man living in the Oregon wilderness. His only friend is his truffle-hunting pig, and the story follows Rob’s journey to Portland when the pig is stolen. The film explores themes of sadness and loss, with the pig representing the struggle between clinging to the past and accepting change. Cage delivers a surprisingly restrained performance, a departure from his more over-the-top roles in films like Face/Off and The Wicker Man.

Michael Sarnoski wrote and directed Pig, building on an idea he created with Vanessa Block. The film features Alex Wolff (known from The Naked Brothers Band), Adam Arkin (Chicago Hope), and Gretchen Corbett (The Rockford Files). Nicolas Cage and Vanessa Block were producers, along with David Carrico, Adam Paulsen, Ben Giladi, Steve Tisch, Dimitra Tsingou, Thomas Benski, Dori A. Rath, and Joseph Restaino.

Pig Is Nicolas Cage’s Favorite Nicolas Cage Movie

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Nicolas Cage described his film Pig as something everyone can relate to, explaining that hardship eventually touches all our lives. He sees the movie as a simple, understated piece – almost like a folk song – which is a departure from his often-intense public persona. Cage expressed satisfaction with the film, noting it was the first time he felt he’d successfully created a meditative or poetic experience on screen.

During an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Nicolas Cage shared his five favorite films. He began with Pig, calling it his personal favorite, and then mentioned Mandy, directed by Panos Cosmatos. He also highlighted Bringing Out the Dead, Bad Lieutenant (a Werner Herzog film), and Joe, directed by David Gordon Green.

Pig is streaming on Netflix until May 26, at which point it will be removed from the platform.
