The show is already a huge hit on Netflix, less than a day after its release, and it’s quickly becoming more popular than many other top shows on the platform.
According to FlixPatrol, the new film Remarkably Bright Creatures has quickly become one of the most popular movies on Netflix, reaching number four worldwide. While Swapped, Apex, and My Dearest Assassin are currently the top three films, Remarkably Bright Creatures is gaining fast and could climb higher in the rankings soon, especially over the weekend. It premiered in the U.S. and is already attracting a lot of viewers.
What Is Netflix’s Remarkably Bright Creatures About?
Olivia Newman directed Remarkably Bright Creatures, a film based on the 2022 novel by Shelby Van Pelt and co-written with John Whittington. The story stars Sally Field as Tova Sullivan, an older woman who works the night shift at an aquarium. Tova develops a special connection with Marcellus, an incredibly intelligent octopus who closely watches her and the aquarium’s guests.
I was really moved by Lewis Pullman’s portrayal of Cameron Cassmore, a man who starts working at the aquarium while dealing with a heartbreaking loss. It’s beautiful to watch how Cameron and Tova gradually get to know each other, realizing they’ve both experienced deep sorrow. Their connection blossoms into an unexpected friendship that genuinely transforms both of their lives, and it’s incredibly touching to witness.
The cast of Remarkably Bright Creatures includes Joan Chen, Beth Grant, Laura Harris, Colm Meaney, Sofia Black-D’Elia, and Kathy Baker, alongside Field and Pullman. Alfred Molina provides the voice for the character Marcellus in the film.
The movie Remarkably Bright Creatures premiered on Netflix on May 8th and quickly became popular with both critics and viewers thanks to its touching story. Currently, Rotten Tomatoes reports a 90% average score based on 30 professional reviews. Audiences also love it, giving it a 90% rating (based on over 50 user reviews) on the site’s ‘Popcornmeter’.
What’s Next for the Stars of Remarkably Bright Creatures?
While Sally Field doesn’t have any new projects announced at the moment, her co-star Lewis Pullman will be appearing in a Marvel movie later this year. He’s returning as the Sentry in Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18th.
Harrison Ford’s General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross (Pullman) will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, and Hannah John-Kamen, who are also part of the Thunderbolts team. However, they’re just one piece of the massive cast assembling for Avengers: Doomsday. The movie will feature the return of the current Avengers, plus allies from Atlantis and Wakanda, the new Fantastic Four, and over half a dozen familiar faces from the X-Men universe. Plus, expect to see Chris Evans reprise his role as Captain America and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
Remarkably Bright Creatures is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
