During their investigation, the team discovered chicken eggs inside one of the fallen agents. Immediately after, they were swarmed by attacking chickens. These weren’t ordinary chickens – they were incredibly strong and quickly overwhelmed most of the team, despite everyone fighting back with both fists and guns. Realizing they couldn’t win, Butcher decided to retreat and led the remaining members out of the barn.
Butcher quickly secured the barn door, then stared in disbelief at the modified chickens. While he was understandably upset by this strange turn of events, his joke about Kentucky Fried Chicken was incredibly funny.

By the end of season 3, the focus shifted to Butcher. The fourth season begins with the episode “Department of Dirty Tricks,” where Butcher immediately seeks out Ryan, hoping to convince him to return to Grace Mallory. He finds Ryan with Zoe Neuman and asks her to step away so they can talk.
As expected, Zoe quickly grabbed her phone, probably to tell her mother that Butcher had arrived. Butcher only managed to say a few desperate things to Ryan before Homelander appeared. Homelander then predictably showed off his powers and even made cruel remarks about Butcher’s brain tumor, which he could see with his X-ray vision.
This is Butcher’s initial reaction, and it’s genuinely funny. Everyone knows Homelander is incredibly arrogant, so this line perfectly captures what the audience was already feeling, making it especially impactful.
“You’re a Bunch of Pathetic Supe-Worshipping C***s. I Bet You’d Thank a Supe if They Shit on Your Mum’s Best China.”
In Season 1, Episode 6, “The Innocents,” Butcher and Hughie attend a support group for people affected by superheroes. The group focuses less on direct harm and more on the complicated ways supes have impacted their lives – both negatively and, surprisingly, positively. This episode was one of the first to really show the extent of the damage supes can cause, even when their intentions are good.

That’s exactly what The Boys were hoping for. They weren’t after anything fancy, just a huge public relations disaster that would finally bring Vought crashing down.
Butcher remains preoccupied with the fact that they have Kimiko’s brother tied up on the boat. While M.M., Frenchie, and Hughie are thrilled, they point out that Butcher isn’t joining in the celebration, especially considering Hughie was the one who made it happen. Hughie asks Butcher for a little acknowledgement, and Butcher responds with a promise.
Butcher responded with a deliberately shocking and sarcastic offer – a large bottle of lubricant and a threat to relentlessly tease Hughie. It was a harsh way of reminding Hughie that their work wasn’t finished. Butcher’s ultimate goal remained the same: to destroy Homelander and all other Supes.

Okay, so in Season 5, Episode 4, ‘King of Hell,’ things really go off the rails. Butcher discovers Homelander locked up in this crazy cage – apparently built by Soldier Boy and reinforced with uranium! Their whole conversation is just…epic. Homelander tries to intimidate Butcher with his usual threats, but Butcher immediately comes back with these brutal, psychologically damaging attacks. It’s like he’s planting bombs in Homelander’s head with every word. Honestly, it’s one of the best face-offs I’ve seen in a while.
Man, it was brutal watching Butcher tear into Homelander. He really went for the kill, pointing out how weak Homelander was and just twisting the knife. He kept mocking him, like he was a little kid in time-out, and then really hit him where it hurt by bringing up his dad and how much he clearly didn’t want anything to do with him. It was awful, but honestly, kinda satisfying to see Homelander speechless for once.
Though not as hilarious as Butcher’s other lines, this moment shows he’s still using dark humor, even as he becomes more like Homelander. He ends the scene with a frightening threat of his own: “I promise you, before I die, I’ll get you.” Viewers are eagerly anticipating how this vow will unfold in the final episode.
“Now, Remember What I Told You.”
A particularly funny moment with Butcher in the second season cleverly leads into another character’s joke. He jokingly reminds Ryan, Homelander’s son, about the last thing he told him before arranging for Ryan to be safely hidden with a new family at the end of the season.
Ryan and Butcher didn’t start off with a close relationship, and it initially looked like Ryan might end up like his father. However, a key moment in Season 2, Episode 8 (“What I Know”)—when Ryan responds to Butcher with a firm “Don’t be a jerk”—suggests he’s actually choosing a different path.
