The critically acclaimed film Exit 8—which earned high praise and even broke records on Rotten Tomatoes—is now available to stream at home on PVOD.
Neon has announced that the film Exit 8 is now available to rent or buy on demand through platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. The movie first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year, where it was nominated for Best Feature Film, and was released in Japan last fall. It opened in North American theaters on April 10th, and is now available on demand less than a month later, having earned $44 million worldwide in theaters.
Exit 8 Holds the Record as RT’s Highest-Rated Video Game Movie
While it hasn’t sold as many tickets as huge hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its sequel, the indie horror film Exit 8 is unique. It currently holds the record for the highest audience and critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 93% rating from critics and an 86% audience score.
Currently, the highest-rated video game movies are Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) and Werewolves Within (2021), both scoring 86%. The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019) follows with 72%, and Mortal Kombat II completes the top five at 64%. While Exit 8 is performing well, it’s important to note that TV adaptations like Arcane and Fallout have even higher ratings.
Exit 8 Is a Faithful Adaptation of the Video Game
I’m really excited about this movie because it’s inspired by the indie horror game, The Exit 8, and they share a lot of the same story! It’s about a guy driving home when he gets stuck in this repeating subway tunnel – it’s like a never-ending loop! To get out, he has to play by these creepy rules from the game. Basically, if he sees anything different or out of place, he has to turn around. If everything looks normal, he keeps going. But one wrong move and he’s back at the start, having to do the whole thing over again. It sounds terrifying!
Genki Kawamura directed the movie and co-wrote the script with Kentaro Hirase. The film is based on the popular game created by Kotake Create. Kazaunari Ninomiya plays the main character, a man trapped in a maze, and the cast also includes Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, Kotone Hanase, and Nana Komatsu.
Exit 8 is now available to rent or purchase on various PVOD platforms.
