Netflix’s new crime thriller could be headed for legendary status.
This streaming service is known for its popular and highly-rated crime dramas, including hits like Mindhunter, Ozark, The Night Agent, Fool Me Once, and Black Rabbit. They consistently deliver gripping plots and suspenseful stories that keep viewers engaged. Now, a new thriller on the platform is receiving similar praise and looks set to become another success.
The new Netflix series Legends has launched to rave reviews, earning a high score on Rotten Tomatoes. Created by Neil Forsyth, the show is based on the real story of British customs officers who went undercover to bust drug smugglers in the early 1990s. The cast features acclaimed actors like Steve Coogan (known for Philomena), Tom Burke, and Hayley Squires.
All six episodes of Legends are now available on Netflix, and the show has received a positive initial response from critics, earning an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, this score is based on only eight reviews so far and may change as more come in. Currently, there isn’t an audience rating available.
The film features a talented cast including Aml Ameen, Jasmine Blackborow, Douglas Hodge, Charlotte Ritchie, Tom Hughes, Johnny Harris, Gerald Kyd, Numan Acar, Joshua Samuels, Kem Hassan, Thomas Coombes, and Alex Jennings.
In a review for ScreenRant’s Legends, Greg MacArthur gave the show a very high rating of nine out of ten stars. He described it as a captivating and expertly crafted suspense story that pays tribute to overlooked heroes. He noted that the show is naturally engaging and draws viewers in immediately.
Legends is a fast-paced, six-episode thriller that manages to feel as expansive and gripping as larger crime dramas like Mayor of Kingstown and Narcos.
Critics generally love the show, highlighting its lively pace and refined production. Alison Herman of Variety said it’s “so fun you can forget the deadly stakes of the assignment,” and explained that’s exactly what the show aims for. Rebecca Nicholson of the Financial Times described it as “outstanding TV, elegant and composed,” keeping viewers hooked throughout. Anita Singh from the Daily Telegraph was amazed that the incredible story was actually true.
Lucy Mangan in The Guardian feels the show’s seriousness holds it back from being truly captivating, but still describes it as a brilliant and well-crafted story. Ed Power of the Irish Times found it gripping and was surprised by how glamorously it depicted customs officials. Jessica Toomer from Collider highlighted its easy watchability. However, Pramit Chatterjee of Digital Mafia Talkies was less impressed, calling the show tired.
