Jenna Ortega is quickly becoming a major star in Hollywood. While she’s known for the hugely popular Wednesday, some fans consider her work in the Jurassic World series on Netflix to be her best role on the platform. Ortega has also appeared in other notable projects like You, Scream, and the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Jenna Ortega has a strong connection to Netflix thanks to her popular roles in shows like You and Wednesday. Wednesday is particularly successful – it’s one of only a handful of Netflix series to achieve a significant milestone. Netflix reports that Wednesday, Stranger Things, and Bridgerton are the only shows to have multiple seasons appear on the platform’s list of most-watched series.
While Stranger Things used to be Netflix’s biggest show before concluding in 2025, Wednesday has now taken the lead. Season 2 of Wednesday garnered 119.3 million views, placing it fifth all-time, but Season 1 remains the most popular English-language series on Netflix, with an impressive 252.1 million views. The show continues to be successful, with a third season planned. However, Wednesday isn’t actually the highest-performing series featuring Jenna Ortega.
The animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous often gets overlooked, especially compared to the popular Jurassic Park movies. But it’s a surprisingly good show – full of heart, exciting action, and even a few scares – making it a solid addition to Netflix’s offerings.
Jenna Ortega Plays An Integral Role In Netflix’s Jurassic World Series
The voice cast of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous features well-known actors such as Glen Powell (known for Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters), Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Bradley Whitford (Get Out). However, these actors played supporting roles, while Jenna Ortega starred as Brooklynn, one of the show’s main characters.
Netflix’s Jurassic World series follows six teenagers stranded on the island after the park’s collapse, as seen in the 2015 film starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Known as the Nublar Six, they must survive on their own in the jungle for five seasons, battling dinosaurs and figuring out how to escape.
The show’s popularity led to a follow-up series, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, which premiered less than two years after the original ended. However, Jenna Ortega had become a major star by then, with successful roles in the Scream movies and the Netflix series Wednesday (released in 2022, the same year Camp Cretaceous concluded). Because of her busy schedule, the role of Brooklynn was recast, with Kiersten Kelly taking over.
Why Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Is Better Than Wednesday
While both shows are popular on Netflix, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous actually received better reviews from critics than Wednesday. Camp Cretaceous boasts a 92% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to Wednesday’s 80%. This suggests Camp Cretaceous was more consistently well-received and didn’t generate as much debate. Although Wednesday has a strong cast, the show heavily relies on Jenna Ortega’s performance as the central character, whereas Camp Cretaceous feels more balanced.
Jenna Ortega’s involvement is definitely a draw for both series. However, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous gives Ortega a central role that drives the story, and it also explores the characters and their emotions more deeply. Surprisingly, despite both shows blending horror and comedy, Camp Cretaceous delivers the more genuinely frightening moments, especially when Scorpios Rex appears. While both are great shows, I think Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is actually better than Wednesday, and it showcases Jenna Ortega at her best on Netflix.
