Arun Maini, who goes by the name ‘Mrwhosetheboss’ online, is a tech YouTuber from Britain with a large following of over 22 million subscribers.
He shares a lot of his life online, from YouTube videos to Instagram posts about his travels, but there was one story he’d kept completely private.
In May 2026, Maini gave TopMob an exclusive interview detailing his experience with US Customs and Border Protection.
He was originally sent to report on a new, technologically advanced stadium in the country, but authorities prevented him from leaving the airport and connecting with the team he was supposed to meet.

Mrwhosetheboss “traumatized” by experience at US Customs
According to Maini, Border Protection officers brought him to a private room for questioning, where they extensively asked him about what he had been doing in the United States and why he was traveling.
They began questioning me extensively about this issue, and the conversation quickly became intense. It felt like they were accusing me of stealing from the government, and ultimately, they moved me to a separate, more private room.
According to Maini, the room was full of guns and security guards. He was then taken to a cell, where he was forced to remove his clothes and undergo a thorough search.

I was taken to a cell and subjected to a thorough and invasive search, which was deeply upsetting. Afterwards, I was allowed to get dressed again, but even my shoelaces were removed.
They refused to return my phone, and I was trapped in a cell. I couldn’t reach anyone, and my family didn’t know where I was. I was surrounded by questionable characters and kept wondering what I had done to deserve this.
After 26 hours, Maini was finally allowed to return home, but he was deeply shaken by the experience and unable to complete the video project he was working on, costing him $300,000. He explained that the issue stemmed from traveling with the wrong type of visa.
Every time I hear he comes back to the US, it sounds like he’s immediately taken for questioning. Apparently, that incident left a permanent mark on his record, and he always gets sent to an interrogation room when he arrives. It’s just not right!
“It’s scary. I don’t like it. …I was distraught,” he told us.
