A recent interview with director Joe Russo shared a surprising update for Marvel fans: filming for Avengers: Doomsday is still happening at Pinewood Studios in the UK.
It’s not a secret that Marvel Studios often does a lot of extra filming and editing to finalize its movies. However, given how important the success of Avengers: Doomsday is, people might be surprised to learn that they are still filming it just six months before it comes out.
Avengers: Doomsday Is Still a Work In Progress
This comment came up during a conversation with Russo about movie spoilers. He explained that spoilers often appear when films are being reshot. According to Russo, audiences enjoy being surprised, which makes going to the movies fun. However, he also noted that there’s a tendency to become overly cautious about avoiding spoilers, making people hesitant to discuss or look at anything related to the film.
Angela Russo-Otstot, sister of Russo and CCO at AGBO, explained that the filmmakers put a lot of effort into keeping plot twists and surprises secret. They believe it’s important to protect the experience so everyone can enjoy the story in the same way.
I’m really curious to see if any details slip out from the reshoots, but honestly, Marvel has already given us fans a lot to discuss! They’ve teased connections to Avengers: Doomsday with this new footage, which is more than enough to keep me excited and speculating without needing to see spoilers. I’m happy with that!
Avengers: Doomsday Is a Huge Project
It’s not really surprising to hear that Avengers: Doomsday is undergoing some reshoots. Given the scale of this Marvel Studios film, it’s likely post-production will be a tight race against the clock.
Avengers: Doomsday is the first Avengers film in seven years and will reunite fans with major stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who haven’t appeared since Avengers: Endgame, notably Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom. With a large cast and ambitious scope, the production is proving to be quite complex.
The new Avengers movie, Doomsday, is having a tough start at the box office. It’s opening on the same day as Dune: Part Three, which has led to fans jokingly calling it “Dunesday.” A major disadvantage for Doomsday is that Dune has booked all the IMAX theaters.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to open in theaters on Dec. 16.
