RealRTCW is the leading modification for the classic game, Return to Castle Wolfenstein. As the game approaches its 25th anniversary, the modding community is working on something special for fans.
- The creators of RealRTCW have announced a free DLC titled The Cursed Sands.
- What’s more, we won’t have to wait long, as it will debut on May 6 this year.
- The DLC will introduce levels set in Egypt to the PC version of the game. Previously, these were available only as a prologue in the Return to Castle Wolfenstein conversions for PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox. Now we’ll finally be able to play these maps on PC.
- The expansion will offer a total of seven maps. All of them will, of course, be upgraded to match the rest of what RealRTCW offers. The creators will also allow for extensive gameplay customization. For example, we’ll be able to enable the interface from PS2 or Xbox, as well as choose between different enemy variants, loading screens, and several sets of sound effects.
RealRTCW is available as direct downloads and through platforms like Steam and GOG.com. The Cursed Sands expansion will be distributed in the same way.

RealRTCW 5.4
RealRTCW is a project that completely updates the classic first-person shooter game. It features significantly improved graphics – including textures and support for modern, wide-screen resolutions – and makes the gameplay more engaging with smarter enemy behavior.
The project is constantly evolving with new features, and one exciting addition is a survival mode. In this mode, players battle through increasingly difficult waves of enemies. We’re continually updating this mode with new content, including a new map released every few months. You’ll also be able to experience survival levels within The Cursed Sands.
I’m so hyped for the expansion, but while we wait, I just had to share that a new version of RealRTCW dropped a few days ago – version 5.4! It’s packed with a bunch of cool new features, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan like me.
- Multiplayer maps previously available only on Xbox—Barn, Safe, and Norway—have been recreated in RealRTCW as survival mode maps. An additional level, Crypt, has also been added to this mode, representing a reworked campaign location. The developers claim it is the most intense and challenging experience they have created so far.
- A fifth class, Covert Ops, taken from Enemy Territory, has joined the four already available in survival mode.
- In addition, survival mode now features two new types of enemies.
- Three items previously available only on Xbox have been added to the game.
- A major improvement to gamepad controls has also been implemented.
- All environment textures have been refreshed.
- Of course, there are also numerous bug fixes and campaign improvements.
